Observations of AGN with EPIC on board XMM-Newton M.J.L.Turner, and the EPIC Team With a combined effective area of 3000 cm$^2$ and with a bandwidth that covers 0.1 to 10 keV, EPIC is well adapted to spectral studies of AGN over a wide range of luminosity and redshift. For bright objects the spectral resolution enables the detection and characterisation of iron lines with equivalent widths as small as 20 eV. For more distant and faint sources iron lines have been measured up to red-shifts of 3, so far. The continuum of AGN can be characterised over the full bandwidth. In particular soft excess measurements can be made with unprecedented precision. The EPIC continuum and line spectra of AGN over a wide range of luminosity and red-shift will be presented.
