Two railroad lines, JR and Tobu, provide service from Tokyo area to Nikko. Tobu line is more economical than JR. (1) Access to NIKKO using Tobu Line [~2 hr, 1,320(+1440) yen] ----------------------------------- http://www.tobu.co.jp/english/sight/time_a1.html Tobu Nikko line starts from Asakusa station. Asakusa can be reached using subway Ginza line or subway Asakusa line. How to get to Asakusa is shown below. At the Tobu Asakusa station, take Rapid, Express, or Limited Express bound for Nikko or Kinugawa-Onsen/Shinfujiwara/Aizu-Tajima. In some trains you need to transfer at Shimo-Imaichi station. The rail fare from Asakusa to Nikko is 1320 yen. Seat assignment ticket with surcharge is required for Express (1220 yen) and Limited Express (1440 yen), and it can be purchased at a travel agent or at the ticket counters on the ground floor of Asakusa station. (Tobu Nikko line) Asakusa ---------------> Shimo-Imaichi -----> Tobu Nikko (100-120 min) (8 min) (last) 20:00----------------------------------------21:55 Departure times from Asakusa Rapid* (1320 yen) : 6:20, 7:00, 8:10, 9:10, 10:20, 11:20, 12:20, (13:20), 14:20, 15:20, 16:20 Express (1320+1220 yen): (10:10) Ltd. Transfer at Shimo-Imaichi. (2) Access to NIKKO using JR lines [~ 2 hr, 4920 yen] ----------------------------------- Take Tohoku-Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo or Ueno station. Transfer at Utsunomiya to JR Nikko Line. The train fare, including the Shinkansen surcharge is 4920 yen. The service of JR Nikko line is less frequent. Departure time from Utsunomiya for Nikko: 07:03, 07:36, 08:23, 09:12, 09:58, 10:34, 11:38, 12:35, 13:32, 14:30, 15:02, 15:30, 16:17, 16:36, 17:14, 18:06, 18:33, 19:16, 20:00, 20:50, 21:54, 22:36 (3) Access to Kanaya Hotel from Tobu Nikko station /JR Nikko station ------------------------------------------------------------------- It is about 1.5 km uphill from the station to the Kanaya hotel. 5 min by bus for Kiyotaki, Chuzenji-Spa, or Yumoto-Spa from Tobu or JR Nikko stations, at "Shinkyo" bus stop. (5th bus stop from Tobu Nikko Station). There is still a steep slope from Shinkyo bus stop to the Kanaya Hotel. If you have heavy luggage, using a taxi from the station is probably a good idea. (see "access" at http://www.kanayahotel.co.jp/nkh/index-e.html) (4) How to reach terminal stations in Tokyo ------------------------------------------ (from Narita Airport to Asakusa) Narita Airport ------> Ueno ------> Asakusa (1 hr) (5 min) Take Keisei line (Skyliner or Limited Express) to Ueno. Transfer to Subway Ginza line for Asakusa. or Narita Airport ------> Aoto ------> Asakusa (1 hr) (10 min) Take Keisei line (Limited Express) to Aoto. Transfer to Subway Asakusa line for Asakusa.
